Julius Luther Willis, 67 years of age, died at the Fittz-Faith Clinic Sunday night at 11 o'clock from injuries received when he was struck by a car driven by a woman late Sunday afternoon. Mr. Willis had started across the paved highway in front of his home on the Dodson road to get a cow. It is presumed that he saw the car coming from the South and not the one headed South. In order to get out in front of one car, he stepped in the path of the other, which passed over his legs. His left leg was broken and badly cut, and he received a head cut about ten inches long. He was carried immediately to the clinic but died that night.

The car which run over Mr. Willis was the property of E. W. Lawson, employee of Central Lumber Company, Clarks. It was driven by Miss Ruth McKinsey of Galveston, Texas. Also in the vehicle were Mr. and Mrs. Lawson, a Mrs. Jeans of Urania, two children and another woman. They stopped and gave assistance.

Mr. Willis was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. He was born near Newport March, 1867, the son of William and Jane McCarty Willis. December 22, 1887 he was married to Dosia Shoemaker, also a native of this parish. They resided in Beech Creek and Ward Three until about ten years ago, moving to Winnfield. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Willis, and four survive. He was considered one of the progressive farmers of this parish. He joined the Baptist Church when a youth and was a strict believer in this doctrine.

Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Stella Jones, Herbert and Henry Willis, Winnfield; and Horace Willis, Pineville; two brothers, A. O. Willis, Jena, and John Willis, Sikes; one sister, Mrs. Womack, Franklin Parish; one half-brother, Harve Willis, Franklin Parish; one half-sister, Mrs. Florence Chapman, Grayson.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church at 3 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. B. C. Land in charge, assisted by Rev. W. O. Carraway and Rev. Ellis Smith, pastor First Methodist Church. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery.
