Luke was the youngest of 8 children born to Fate and Faith Moore. The Moore's came to Texas from Tennessee when Luke was 3 and left behind his oldest sister who was married. The brother and sister never met again, although they corresponded through letters.

He married Johnnie Hudson in 1914 and they raise 5 children. Luke lost his right arm in an accident in 1940. It is buried at the feet of his father Simon Lafayette Moore.

The lost of the arm never slowed him down. He continued to farm and had a Gas Station for a while. Johnnie was a big help mate to him and when he would come in from the fields she was there to "wash his hand". After she died in 1966, we were afraid of how he would manage. But he kept right on going and worked out everything and was totally self sufficient. He had a bent coat hanger that was attached to his chair arm to use as a button hook for the one sleeve he had to button. He always wore long sleeves with one tucked into his waistband.

Luke was the gentlest man and one of the most loving people you ever met. I would spend time with them every summer and at 2:00 on the dot, he would come in from the fields and take me to get a snow cone.......I remember sitting in his lap when I was about 5. I was just learning left and right and I remember asking him, "Grandaddy, which arm did you loose?"

Without missing a beat, he grinned real big and said "Which one do you think?"

He was my HERO! I miss you Grandaddy!
