OBITUARY according to the New Castle News dated June 3 1903: Mrs Jane Spencer, widow of John Henry Spencer, an old and prominent residence, 128 Pittsburg Street, Friday evening, her death being due to a stroke of paralysis which she sustained the Monday previous. Mrs Spencer was 73 years old and was born in Wales. When three years old she came with her parents to this country and nearly all of her long life was passed in this city. For a short period she resided in Pittsburg. Mrs Spencer was a very earnest christian woman. She was a member of the Savannah church, and endeavored to walk in the steps of the great teacher. She was the mother of 14 children, several of whom are dead. Her basics were domestic, and she found her highest happiness in caring for her children and home, though she was ready when opportunityy presented itself to render kindly service for others. Death had for her no terrors and she was ready and willing to go when the summons came. She is survived by these children: David Henry (New Amsterdam PA), william W (Kansas City), Mrs John N Martin (Oakland CA), Mrs David F Campbell (South Sharon), and Miss Mary Jane, Mrs Rosena Hyers, Benjamin Albert, Andrew D., Mrs Emslie Coates and Mrs Newton Winter of this city.
