CALIFORNIA PIONEER PASSES HERE, AGED 77

MRS. DRUSILLA McDANIEL CAME TO THIS STATE FROM ILLINOIS

In the death here of Mrs. Drusilla McDaniel last Friday, California lost one it oldest white inhabitants. Mrs. McDaniel was born in La Harp county, Illinois, seventy-seven years ago, and came to San Bernardino with her father when only a child of ten years. At that time California had only been wrested from Mexico and Los Angeles was only a Mexican village. The deceased was married very young and lived most of her life in El Monte. She had been in failing health for four years. Two weeks ago she fell and broke her hipbone, and her death was hastened by this accident. Her husband has been dead twenty years.

Mrs. McDaniel was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are now living: Elijah Stowell, Bragg, John and James McDaniel and Mesdames Mary Hallum, Annie Blocker and Alice Rogers. All live in Southern California.

The remains were buried at the local cemetery Saturday, Rev. F. A. Leak of the Hemet M. E. church conducting the services. Roulston and Spaulding were the undertakers in charge.
