Maria or Mary Lauermann was the oldest child of immigrant pioneers to Lake County, Indiana, Mathias Lauermann and Maria Heiser. Both had come with their respective parents from what is now the Saarland of Germany. Mathias was on the ship "Athens" from Le Havre, arriving in New York on 4 Aug 1840. Maria Heiser was on the ship "Olof" from Antwerp, arriving in New York 1 Jun 1846. They married on 23 Sep 1846 at old St. Peter's in Chicago but established their home in Lake County, Indiana. Their daughter, Maria or Mary, married Bart Hepp on 24 Apr 1867 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Crown Point, Lake County, Indiana. They are subsequently found in records of Wien, Chariton County, Missouri, but eventually settled in Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington. They had at least four children.
