George R. Speckman Sr., 79, of Greenwood, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

George was born to the late George and Mamie (Knott) Speckman in Indianapolis on Feb. 19, 1931.

He retired after 35 years as a civil engineer with Indianapolis Power and Light. He served our country in the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Cath­olic Church, where he had served on the parish council and school board, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

George married Julia Schwartz on Aug. 19, 1953; and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, George R. Jr., Mark T. and Michael E. Speckman; one daughter, Gretchen M. Krug; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six siblings.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian St. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
