He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
LCpl Taylor was killed during an exchange of small arms fire with enemy forces in Sangin district, Helmand province.
Aged 30, from Rhyl, Wales. A former British Army soldier, he joined the Royal Marines in April 2004. He was previously drafted to serve with Naval Party Iraq in 2006 and Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines until January 2009. He then specialised within the anti-tank branch and completed a tour of duty in Kajaki, Afghanistan with Victor Company, 45 Commando. In March 2010, he deployed with 40 Commando to Sangin area. Senior officers lauded him as a superb Marine with a passion for his job and an inspirational leader. He was also well known for his DIY skills and helped build a toilet and shower area, a chill-out zone, and exercise station to make life easier at the patrol base. He loved sports, especially golf, running and cricket, and he was an ardent Everton FC fan.
LCpl Taylor leaves behind his partner Sonia Fleming and their three children Ethan, Wesley and Charlton, parents John and Jackie Taylor, sister Leanne Taylor, brother John Taylor, grandparents Margaret and Paul Wright, along with other family and friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on July 16, 2010 at St Thomas' Church, Rhyl.
