Abner Clay Cooper, son of Joseph J. Cooper and the former Martha Huddleston Strait, was born on the 7th of April 1852 in Winston, Mississippi. Abner was the twin brother of Thomas Jefferson Cooper.

On April 6th 1876, Abner married Miss Cevil A. Scott with wom he had the following known children:
Thomas Jefferson (1880-1881)
Infant Son (1883-1883)
Abner Clay (1885-1941)
Eula (1887-)
Annie (1889-1979)
Lizzie (1893-1994)

After Cevila died in 1894, Abner moved to Wilcox County and married Margaret Jane Gaston in 1895. Abner Cooper, soon became known as "Uncle Ab" by his many nieces and nephews that his wife "Aunt Maggie" Gaston helped raise near their home in Gastonburg. Later adding two sons of their own to the family:
Finis Gaston (1897-1990)
John Leonard (1902-2000)

Abner Clay Cooper lived 18 years after his beloved Maggie passed away in 1920; departing this life on October 13th 1938. He was laid to rest in Gastonberg Cemetery near his 2nd wife and children who preceded him.
