Grady Dale Leatherwood age 63 of Waynesville, NC passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 31, 1943 to the late Woodrow and Iliok Pressley Leatherwood in Haywood County. In death he rejoins his parents and three sisters Martha Leatherwood, Ineva Brown and Betty Sharp.

A Master SGT, he retired from the U.S. Army after serving faithfully for over 21 years. He served two tours in Vietnam, was station in Korea, Italy and Germany. After the military he worked as an insurance agent, most recently owning an operating Alpha Insurance Agency in Waynesville. He and his wife operated the Waynesville Tag office. His family noted his love for electronics, carpentry and traveling. He was a Big Brother for the Big Brothers and Big Sister Program. He was a past president of the Waynesville Lions Club, was a member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #259 holding degrees in the Yorkrite and Shriners Club. He also ran for sheriff after retiring from the military in the 80's. He was raised in the Baptist faith but attended various churches in the area.

He will be laid to rest at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. Millitary honors will be conducted at the cemetery for his honorable service.
