Susanna McChesney was married to Patrick Hall, In either 1773, or shortly on or after 28 Jan 1779. Patrick would serve as a Captain in Virginia, during the Revolutionary War. In the War of 1812, he would serve as commissary, in Capt. McCutchan's Company.

I note the following McChesneys are believed to be her siblings:
Martha, James, Hugh and Robert. Morton's A History of Rockbridge County, Virginia, page 502 says: "In 1770 the McChesney's; James, Hugh, Robert, Susan and Martha, along with the Hall's; Patrick, William and Jane; and also some Patterson's immigrated to Virginia, from County Armagh, Ireland."

In Ireland, before arriving in the colonies here, Patrick Hall had given Susanna a betrothal ring, in honor of their engagement. Inside it said "I have obtained whom God ordained." Her brother Leander had the ring before losing it in the 1871 Chicago fire (per Leander's 1896 bio).

Attached on the right, is a copy of the original Rockbridge County, VA marriage bond dated 28 Jan "1779" by Patrick Hall and (her brother) James McChesney for the marriage of Patrick Hall to Susanna McChesney. The last number in 177_?_ is cut off, on this copy on the right, but the Rockbridge County record listed the year for it. I note her brother Leander's bio says they married in 1773 by Rev. John Brown, the pastor of New Providence Presbyterian Church. However they are said to have arrived in the colonies in 1770 and daughter Martha's newer 1894 gravestone, says she was born in 1770, so the years are slightly off. Note the original signatures of Patrick Hall and Jas McChesney.

Patrick Hall purchased a farm in Augusta Co., VA. Kerrs Creek later became Rockbridge Co., VA.

Their Hall children:
Twins who died in infancy. Rev. John Brown baptized them at 8 days old.
Martha Patsy, 1776 (cousin Thos McChesney)
Mary Ann, 24 Jun 1780
William, 1782, died of yellow fever caught in Norfolk
Robert, 1784
Joanna, 1786 (Mr. Brown) buried at Old Providence Cemetery

She died of yellow fever, believed contracted while nursing her son William, who was serving in the army. He brought the disease back from Norfolk, Virginia and his father caught it soon after.

Her marker says:
In Memory Of
Susannah McChesney
Wife of
Patrick Hall
Who died of Yellow Fever

The names of her parents are unknown as yet. Click on her siblings on Findagrave.com to take you to their sites:
