Immigrated to Kaleva as a child with her mother and brothers. She married Isaac Marttila in 1926 and raised two children in Detroit. When Isaac and their son Arnold contracted tuberculous in the early 1930's and went to a sanitarium, she moved back to Kaleva and raised her daughter Agnes alone through the Great Depression and World War II. After Agnes married and started her own family, she married Ed Lemponen. They lived in Detroit and Kaleva until Ed retired and they moved to Kaleva. After taking care of her father and husband in their old age, she moved to Georgia to live near Agnes and her family.
