Elizabeth - Former Wirt County commissioner Donald Lockhart, 83, of Palestine, Wirt County, passed away Nov. 14, 2002, at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness. Mr. Lockhart was born July 12, 1919, in Wirt County, a son of the late Harry and Della Dye Lockhart. He attended Wirt County schools, and was a lifelong Wirt County beef and sheep farmer. He was a U.S. Army verteran, having served during World War II, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was elected to two terms (1962-1974) on the Wirt County Commission, having twice served as commission president. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Palestine, the Wirt County Farm Bureau and the National Rifle Association. He will be missed by two sons, Lawrence L. Lockhart of Vienna and Robert L. Lockhart of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Betty Cox of Elizabeth; one brother, Doral Lockhart of Palestine; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchidlren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alice Daniell Lockhart, in 2001; and one sister, Bertha Louise Lockhart, in 1997. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery, Thorne Addition, Palestine. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and until the time of services Sunday. In lieu of other memorials, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, c/o Busch Funeral Home, P. O. Box 43, Elizabeth, W.Va., 26143.
