Wyaconda, August 5 – Funeral services for John L. Austin were held Sunday afternoon at the Wyaconda Baptist Church in charge of the Rev. Robert Wakefield. Mrs. Kenneth Fry was soloist, with Mrs. Larry Hales at the piano. Body bearers were H. E. Sherwood, W. M. Hayden, James Blake, Leo Kraus, John Meinhardt, and the Charles Bricker. Interment was in the Combs Cemetery near Luray.

John Lloyd Austin was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, on April 9, 1869 and was the son of Bayliss and Sophie Triplett Austin. He came with his family to Missouri and in September, 1902, he was married to Jennie L. Northcraft, who preceded him in death. He was later married to Bertha Fletcher who survives him. He lived for several years on a farm near Luray and was a member of the Luray Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Austin moved to Wyaconda in 1944 and Mr. Austin was quite active up until the beginning of his last illness. He had been a patient in the Burlington Hospital for two weeks.
