Alfred was born to Hattie and Armedes Bechard at Draper, SD on May 10, 1911. His education was received in rural schools in this area where he grew to manhood.

On Nov 22, 1934 he was married to Reita Boal at Vivian. Except for eleven years they lived in Eau Claire, Wis., when Alfred was employed by the US Rubber Co., they have made their home in Presho, Vivian and Draper areas.

Alfred was a member of the United Methodist Church, several sport clubs and had served on the city council.

Survivors include his wife Reita, one son Karl Bechard; four daughters JoAnn Laufenberg, Karen Gilman, Beth Oller, and Lyn Emmons. Five brothers: Herman, Morris, Paul, Wilmar, and Arthur, two sisters Elvira Nelson and Edith Melzig.
