BELMONT - J.C.(June Clayton) "Jake" Cloninger, 91, of 803 Woodlawn Ave., died Friday, June 4, 2010.

He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Miles Macon and Sophie Taylor Cloninger.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elma Jones Cloninger.

He was a retired paint contractor, a US Navy veteran of WWII, a member of Lowell Masonic Lodge and a member of Goshen Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Sue Cloninger Hooker of Belmont; two grandchildren, Byron Hooker and wife Donna of Belmont, Melissa Branham and husband Jimmy of Stanley; four great-grandchildren, Quentin Hooker, Skylar Hooker, Morgan Branham and Mattie Grace Branham; one brother, Larry Cloninger and wife Zetta of Belmont; two sisters, Frankie Hill of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pauline Rhinehart of Knoxville, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Graveside service will be held, 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Dallas, with the Rev. Dewey Murphy officiating.

Memorials may be made to Goshen Presbyterian Church, 380 Woodlawn Ave., Belmont, NC 28012 or to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O. 3984, Gasto-nia, NC 28053.

Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is in charge of arrangements.
