" The funeral for John J. "Jack" Smith of Griffin was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 23, at First United Church of Griffin with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Smith, a retired Spalding County extension agent, died of cancer Wednesday,(3p.m.) August 22 at Griffin- Spalding Hospital.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a past manager of the Griffin Kiwanis Fair Association, divisional lieutenant governor of Kiwanis, and member of the advisory board of Griffin Vocational- Technical School. He also belonged to the Georgia County Agents Association and First United Church of Griffin.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Daisy Harvey Smith of Griffin; son Jim Smith of Griffin; daughter Miss Claire Smith of Griffin, and sister, Mrs.Alice Wolfe of Quincy,Fla.."
