Irene was born January 11, 1914 in Two Rivers, WI to Henry W. and Esther (Rezach) Althen.
On September 5, 1934 she married Edward J. Gottschalk of Sheboygan. For twenty years Irene worked side by side with Edward as operators of Edward's Restaurant which was located behind Hill's Department Store on Wisconsin Avenue. They also operated the Playdium Fountain Restaurant on New York Avenue for five years before that. Edward preceded her in death on April 28, 2000.
Irene was a former member of St. Clement's Catholic Parish. After relocating in Plymouth, she joined St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish.
Irene is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; a daughter and son-in-law; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by infant brothers, Lloyd and Earl Althen, and brothers Henry and Kenneth Althen.
Following cremation, interment will take place on the Gottschalk family plot in Calvary Cemetery with immediate family side by side remembering the mother and grandmother who was truly loved and will be missed.
