Giuseppe Raffaele Giacomo "Joseph" Soluri was born in Gimigliano, Italy on October 12, 1882, the son of Antonio and Maria Constantina (Merante) Soluri. He had at least five siblings, Teresa Soluri, Angela Pristera, Rosa Soluri, Angelo Soluri and Elisabetta Pappaianni.

Joseph first arrived in the United States on November 19, 1902, traveling aboard the SS Aller with along with his brother Angelo and their niece Maria Constantina Pappaianni. They left from Naples, Italy, and arrived in New York City.

At some point, Joseph left the United States, and returned to Italy. Around 1908, while back in his hometown of Gimigliano, Joseph began a relationship with Maria Roselli, the daughter of the mayor of Gimigliano. Joseph and Mary were together for three months when Joseph suggested an elopement to the United States. Joseph left for the United States along with his nephews Salvatore and Anthony P. Soluri, on May 10, 1908 on the SS Hamburg. It is not known when exactly Maria joined him, but it was sometime in 1908.

The couple did not immediately marry upon their arrival to America, although they began living together in Niagara Falls, New York, and ran grocery store. On December 27, 1908, their first child, Anthony, was born. He was followed by their daughter, Mary, on October 23, 1910. They also had another child around 1912 or 1913, who died in infancy. The couple officially married on May 28, 1913 in Niagara Falls. On March 15, 1918, their fourth child, Ella, was born.

Joseph died on April 1, 1951.
