Percy J. Marshall, 88, of Kittanning, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Chickasaw, Pa., a son of Clifford W. and Florence B. (Williams) Marshall. Percy was a 1940 graduate of Kittanning High School. He then served during peacetime as a sergeant in the Army, from 1940 to 1941. His career totaled 45 years working for Allegheny River Mining Co., Shawmut Development, Pittsburgh, and Shawmut Coal Co., and retiring in 1986 from Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad Co. as the vice president of purchasing. He was a long-term member of Grace Brethren Church of West Kittanning, serving on the church building committee and finance committee, where he was the chairman for many years. He enjoyed participating in the Gospel Light Sunday School Class. Percy was a past member of the Purchasing Management Association of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Railway Club, Armstrong County Hunting and Fishing Club and the Marienville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard, Clifford and Twyde Marshall; and his sister, Maxine Plants Straight. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty M. (Shankle) Marshall, with whom he shared nearly 67 years of marriage; his son, the Rev. Kelly Marshall, of Boardman, Ohio; daughter, Karen S. Hawk and husband, Russell, of Kittanning; granddaughter, Jennifer Marshall; grandsons, Adam Marshall and wife Katina, Jared Hawk and wife Holly, Matthew Hawk and wife Emily, and Joshua Hawk; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Tristan Marshall, Caleb Hawk and Cadence Hawk. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the BAUER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Brethren Church, 215 Arthur St., West Kittanning, with the Rev. Mark Cornwell and Percy's son, the Rev. Kelly Marshall, co-officiating. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington.
