ELLSWORTH - Louise M. Grindle, 82, died July 25, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Lamoine, the daughter of George W. and Lelia (Jordan) Ashmore. Louise graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1942, and from Modern School of Fashion Design. Louise was married to Robert Grindle on the fourth of July in 1944. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and her family was a source of immense pride. She enjoyed knitting mittens and crocheting outfits for babies, her family, and for others. Louise loved sewing teddy bears with the telephone pioneers, eating out with the senior citizens, traveling on Grange trips and chatting with her friends while waiting for the mail at Union River Estates. Louise was happiest at her beloved camp on Flanders Pond where she spent many wonderful summer days over the past 50 years. For years she was very active as a den mother for the Cub Scouts Pack No. 86, was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls, Ellsworth Falls Mothers Club, Bayside Grange No. 476, Ellsworth Senior Citizen Club and served on the board of the Ellsworth Housing Authority. She is survived by her sons, Robert and wife, Rebecca Grindle, of Franklin, Roger and his wife, Julie Grindle, of Hancock; grandchildren, Shayna, Stephan, Shawn and Billy; brothers, Earl Ashmore of Ellsworth, Charles Ashmore of Lamoine; sisters, Alice Hancock of Sanford, Christine Reed of Dade City, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Billy Clukey and family; and a special friend, Sheila Batson. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert; son, Richard; brothers, Walter, Cliff, George; and a sister, Lillian. (Bangor Daily News 7/27/2005)
