Sarah Smith Conant was born in Saratoga County New York, April 7, 1849, and came to this community with her parents, Bight and Margaret Smith, when she was a small child. She was united in marriage to H. H. Conant in 1872 and to this union one child was born a son Asa. She had resided in this community ever since her marriage.
She is survived by her husband, Hiram H. Conant, and one son Asa; five brothers, George Smith of Youngstown, Louis of Galesburg, Solemon of Rock Island, Lester and John of Utah Ill. Two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a charter member of the Alexis Christian church.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Presbyterian church. Rev. John Blankenship of the Gerlaw Christian church, assisted by Rev. O. D. Slater, had charge of the services. Mrs. John Blankenship and daughter Miss Alto, sang three appropriate songs.
Burial was in Hope cemetery.
