Roby Jane Barnes was the daughter (7th child of 11) of Bartholomew Barnes 1798 and Sarah Polly Pierce. Her parents had moved from Massachusetts and Connecticut to Genesee County New York about 1821-1825, then to Alden (then Clarence), Erie County, New York by 1828.

Roby married Alvin L Jones (parents unknown) about 1852. The couple first lived in Alden, then moved to Little Valley, Cattaraugus County by 1870, to Cold Spring by 1880.

After Alvin died in 1906, Roby lived with her son Archie in Napoli until she died in 1917.

Although her obituary indicates Roby was buried in this cemetery, no one as yet has been able to find a gravestone. There are unmarked spaces near her husband's headstone. Cemetery records should be checked.


Adelia Jane 1856, married Charles Henry Earl in Little Valley, Cattaraugus, then moved to moved to Corydon, Pennsylvania, then to Coldspring, Cattaraugus. Adelia died in 1897 in Coldspring. She is buried in the Bunker Hill Cemetery. After her death her husband continued to live in South Valley, Cattaraugus. Five children.

Edwin Jones 1860, married Amanda Fox in Cold Spring, lived in Cold Spring until 1900, then moved to Somerset, Niagra, New York. Lived with his brother Charles W for a while. Six children (four died before 1900).

Emma Jones 1863 - 1874.

George F 1866, married Bertha M Klock, lived in Napoli. Four children.

Archibald Archie 1868, married Rose B Smith, lived in Napoli and later Randolph, Cattaraugus. Buried in the Randolph Rural Cemetery. Six children.

Charles W 1872, married Maude, lived in Cold Spring, moved to Somerset, Niagra County by 1910. Four children.

Ellen M 1875 , married Harrison Bishop (two children), and James F Hollister (two children), lived in Mansfield, and Conewango, Cattaraugus County, and in Cherry Creek, Ellington, and Gerry, Chautauqua County.

Amy A 1876, married James Edwin Flagg, lived in New Albion and Randolph, Cattaraugus. Seven children. Buried in the Randolph Rural Cemetery.

Emma A 1876 (born after death of sister Emma 1863), married Elmer Horton, lived in Mansfield, and Randolph. Five children.

Ida Mae 1878, married Stanley Skinner, lived in Mansfield, Coldspring, and Randolph. Buried in the Randolph Rural Cemetery. Five children.

Mrs. Roby Jones died Saturday at Horton home

The funeral was held Tuesday from the M. E. Church in Napoli -- Interment in Napoli Cemetery.

Mrs. Roby Jones, died Saturday between 12 and one o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Horton in New street. In February she was stricken with paralysis and two months later suffered the second shock, since which time she had been in on almost helpless condition.

Deceased was the daughter of Matholomew and Polly Pearce Barnes. She was born in Genesee County, November 18, 1835. About 40 years ago she came to Cattaraugus County. Anna had since lived in the towns of Little Valley, Napoli and Coldspring. During the past seven years she had made her home in Randolph.

In September 1851, she was united in marriage with Elvin Jones. Nine children were born to this union, one of whom, Mrs. Adelia Earl, died about 20 years ago. The others are Mrs. Ellen Hollister, of Cherry Creek, Mrs. Edwin Flagg, Mrs. Elmer Horton and Mrs. Ida Skinner, of Randolph, Ed Jones and Charles Jones of Barker, George Jones of Randolph and Arch Jones of Napoli. 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, also one brother and two sisters survive. The brother is William Barnes of Napoli and the sisters, Mrs. Mary Dixon and Mrs. Sarah Lance of Alden.

The funeral was held Tuesday at one o'clock from the M. E. Church at Napoli, of which deceased was a member. Rev. E. C. Fellowes of the Congregational Church officiated and interment was made in Napoli cemetery.

Those attending the obsequies from away were Ernest, Ralph and Lulu Jones, of Buffalo, Hazel Brown of Bradford, Ervin Barnes and family, and Frank Barnes and family of little Valley, and Fay Barney and wife of Onoville.
