Sampson's parents were Sampson Capps and Esther Smith Capps. He married Susannah Evans in 1833 in MO. and had ten children. He is buried next to his wife in West Prairie near Fairview Church. Jayhawker Jim Lain stole cattle from Sampson and burned his fence and made him board several of his men until General Price made Jim Lain leave quickly but not until Jim Lain had beaten Sampson.
