After serving in the army, Tom returned home to help his widowed mother run the family farm. In 1882, they sold it and moved to a home southeast of Lamar in Barton County, Missouri, where they bought another farm. He lived there the rest of his life and never married.
Tom died of the flu at his home near Lamar. At the time of his death, he was 91 years, 4 months and 11 days old.He was survived by 1 sister, Molly Stark; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Wagaman and John C. Wagaman; and 1 sister, Kate Skinner.
Tom was buried near his mother on 19 Mar 1932.
