Elbert Bogart was a son of Helmus Bogart and Sarah (Walters) Bogart. On October 16, 1855, he married Rosalia Evaline Fagaly in Hamilton County, Ohio.

During the Civil War Elbert was a Sergeant in Company D, 70th Infantry Regiment, Ohio. He was mustered out at Columbus, Ohio on a "Surgeon's certificate of disability."

Elbert Bogart's occupation in the Census of 1860 and the Census of 1880 was listed as School Teacher.

Elbert and Rosalia were the parents of seven children that I am aware of; George Henri Bogart, John Elbert Bogart, Mary Ida Bogart, Francis Bogart, Sophia Elizabeth Bogart, Walter Scott Bogart, and Edgar Freeland Bogart.
