Frank Connett Sr., Widely Known, Dies

Frank Davis Connett, father of Circuit Judge Frank D. Connett Jr., died Friday night at a local hospital at age 67.
A retired farmer, Mr. Connett took a prominent part in govermental affairs and farm activities in the state and county. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan county and, until recently, operated the Frank Connett and Sons orchard near Gower.
In 1946, Mr. Connett was recognized for his good citizenship and outstanding farm work as recipient of the Skelly Oil Co. award for superior achievement in agriculture. The award was presented on a nation-wide radio program originating at a breakfast at the Hotel Robidoux.
He was a past president of the Buchanan County Farm Bureau, the Buchanan county extension service and the Missouri State Horticultural Society and had served as a trustee of the state fruit experimental station at Mountain Grove. He served on the board of directors of the St. Joseph National Farm Loan Association and the St. Joseph Producers Livestock Commission Co.
Mr. Connett, an active Democrat, was chairman of the Buchanan county Democratic committee from 1934 to 1938, and was an honorary colonel on the staff of Governor Lloyd C. Stark. In 1941, he was selected president of the Citizens' Good Government Asociation.
He was a member of the Mount Moriah Methodist Church and Gower Masonic Lodge No. 397, A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucretia Connett of the home; another son, Calvin A. Connett, Gower, three brothers, Horace, Edgar, and S. S. Connett Jr., all of Faucett, Mo., two sisters, Mrs. F. M. Utz, St. Joseph, and Mrs. A. W. Jones, Western Springs, Ill., and four grandchildren.
Mason services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman chapel, C. Dayton Kelley officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J. Landis Karnes, J. T. Campbell, Victor L. Caruthers, Sid B. Johnson, Fred C. Hunt, Rex DeShon, Carroll H. Connett and Jervy Brinton.
