Youngest son of Moses Fillingane, Jr. and Eliza Ann Randall Fillingane. Husband of Sarah Catherine Herring Fillingane. Twin brother of Lou Ida Fillingane Headley, who died in 1936. Grandson of Moses Fillingane, Sr. and Elizabeth Anderson Fillingane. He had four brothers: Alvin Luther Fillingane, Jesse D. Fillingane, Oscar William Fillingame, and Charley Alcus Fillingane.
Mr. Fillingane was president of the Perry County Board of Supervisors when he died at his home in the Janice community of a heart condition. He served for 8 years from Jan.1, 1936 to Jan. 1, 1944 in Beat One. After moving to Beat 5, Perry County he was elected 3 successive times, serving from Jan.1, 1952 until his death on Oct. 27, 1961. Thus it is that throughout almost 20 years, he served the county he loved ably and conscientiously.
He was a Deacon of the Janice Baptist Church and a charter member and organizer of the Perry County Wild Life Club and a Mason. He served in the U.S. Army 150th Infantry of the 3rd Division in France in World War I. He also was appointed by Gov. Paul B. Johnson in 1943 as 2nd Lieutenant, Headquarters Co. 3rd Bn. 2nd Regt. In the State Guard of the State of Mississippi.
He was in the contracting business, A merchant and a farmer. He took an active part in the welfare of his community and civic affairs. He will be remembered for promoting the schools with unbiased decisions and his untiring effort to make educational needs available to the school system for present and future generations. He was noted for his kindness and generosity. He valued his many friends, family, and loved ones. His favorite pastimes were fishing and hunting.
