Bert Oliver Beatty was born in Johnson Co., NE, on Dec. 15, 1873, the son of Alvin Perry Beatty and Zerrildia Narciss "Atteberry" Beatty.

On the 1880 census he is living with his parents in Johnson Co., NE. In 1888 and 1889, they were living in Covington, Smith County, Kansas, and in late 1889 or early 1890 the family moved back to Crab Orchard, Johnson Co., Nebraska.

On March 13, 1898 in Perth, Sumner Co., KS Bert married Mae Ella Fancher,. Bert and Mae had 3 children: Bulah O., Vera O., and Lloyd O.

According to the information in his WWI draft registraton card, Bert "Birtie" Oliver Beatty was farming near Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas in September, 1918. He was of medium build, brown eyes, and black hair.
