Norman Smith Dean, 76, a resident of Harrisonburg, departed this life surrounded by his family on May 5, 2007.

He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Pete A. Dean and Madeline Smith Dean.

He graduated from Linville-Edom High School in 1947 and attended Madison College. He served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1950-1954. Norman owned and operated Doc's Tearoom from 1963 to 1967. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Antioch United Church of Christ.
