Son of William Ireland De Courcy Wheeler [29 Feb. 1884-25 Nov. 1899] and Frances Victoria Shaw Wheeler [1848-24 Oct. 1897], of Robertstown House, Co. Kildare.
Husband of Hon. Elsie Shaw Wheeler, daughter of Thomas Shaw [1850-1937], 1st Baron Craigmyle [MP and a Law Lord of Appeal], and Elsie Stephen Forrest [d.1939].

William and Elsie were married on 5th January 1909.
Lady Elsie Wheeler died on 3rd October 1951.

They had two children.
A daughter, Elspeth Desiree Wheeler, b. 20 Feb. 1912, d. 31 July 1947.
A son, William Ireland Thomas Wheeler, b. 4th Jan 1916, d. 30th March 1976.

In the 1911 census. William & Elsie were living at 59, Lower Mount Street, Dublin. William was a 31 year old surgeon at Trinity College Dublin. Elsie was 27 years old and was born at Edinburgh, Scotland. They had no children.
