In Petaluma, Dec. 24th, Henry Eddy, late of Mass., a pioneer of 1846, and well known rescuer of the "Donner Party", aged 43 years.
Seventeen stranded traveler left encampment on December 16, 1846, for California. He was one of six to survive the ordeal and the first to reach a homestead. The others were soon brought to Johnson Ranch to recuperate with Eddy. He went on to co-lead the Third Relief with William Foster in March 1847 bring out four of the remaining survivors.

Mr. Eddy was first buried in Sonoma County. Oak Hill records list date of reinterment as December 3, 1877.
