Rita Faccenda of Kennett Square
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Rita Faccenda (nee Barbuto), 83, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, after a long and valiant battle against cancer.
Born in Philadelphia, Rita spent most of her adult life in her beloved Kennett Square. Together with her husband, Robert, Rita built a home for her three children in the rolling hills of Chester County — a far cry from the busy streets of South Philadelphia where she had grown up.
Rita had been a resident of the Dock Woods Community in Lansdale for the past 2½ years.
Rita's life was filled with tending to her family's every need, spotless housekeeping, cooking delicious meals, baking the best pies, helping her children with school work, babysitting grandchildren, gardening, attending her children's and grandchildren's athletic and school events, playing cards, and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Her life was very blessed and very full, but nothing in it was more important to her than her beloved husband, her children, and her grandchildren.
She was the core, the heart and the essence of her family. She adored every member, and every member worshipped her right back.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of nearly 55 years, Robert D. Faccenda; her parents, Leonard and Rose Barbuto; three sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Ann) of Bear, Del., and Robert Jr. (Deborah) of Harleysville; her daughter, Maryann Simmons (Robert) of Rye, N.Y.; her seven grandchildren, David, Elyse, Michael, Alexandra, Sydney, Spencer and Shane; her sister, Marie Moresi; many loving nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to visit with Rita's family from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14, at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 W. State St., Kennett Square, 610-444-4116, and attend her funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church, 210 Meredith St., Kennett Square, immediately following the visitation.
Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Department of Cancer Biology at the Abramson Cancer Center, c/o Ms. Evelyn Schwartz, Abramson Cancer Center, Office of Development, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia PA 19104.
