JoAnna was the daughter of Josef Przyborowski who came from Poland to SC at the age of 16 as a stowaway to escape the salt mines. While in SC he learned the tailor trade and became the tailor for the Gov. of SC. He learned to speak English as a tailor's apprentice, and by translating the entire Polish Bible to English.
Josef married Susannah Beaty of Conway, SC. Josef and Susannah later moved to Anson Co., NC were he opened up his own tailor shop. He and his wife had 5 children, all girls. Four of them died before the age of 12. Joanna was the only surviving child. Josef died in 1851
at the age of 37.
Joanna moved back to Conway, SC after her father died. She was known as the most beautiful girl in Conway. She sang in the Methodist Church choir on Sunday morning, then on the same morning she left and went to the Presp. Church Choir to sing.
Joanna met and married Alexandeer Thomas Elliott while she was in Conway. He was a Quaker, but converted to (Joanna's) Methodist denomination. Alexander was several years older than Joanna. They moved to Henderson Co., NC after they were married and raised a family of 5 children there.
