Pullman Mayor, Sports Administrator and Coach. Son of John Allan and Sarah (Mohn) Bohler, he served as mayor of Pullman, Washington from 1949 to 1951. He was hired in 1908 as the physical director, coach and trainer at what was then Washington State College, after serving as a student assistant at the University of Nebraska. In 1915 he became the director of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. While at Washington State he coached basketball, baseball, track, wrestling, boxing and skiing. He also taught general classes in physical education. From 1915 to 1933 he served on the Rules Committee of the National Intercollegiate Basketball Association, and from 1936 to 1940 he served as chairman of the Intercollegiate Basketball Committee of the Olympic Committee. In 1950 he left WSC for a position as general manager of the Spokane Civic Auditorium, where he remained for the next five years. He was a charter member of the National Football Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Helms Athletic Foundation Medal, and an inductee into the Helms Hall College Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a driving force in successfully raising funds to build a community swimming pool for the city of Pullman. Bohler Gym located on the campus of Washington State University is named in his honor.
