Walter was a farmer and owned land in Fremont, he was a carpenter, he was the Sheriff of Fremont for several years.

On November 24, 1945 Walter had spent the day helping his brother Ira work on some buildings at his farm and was dropped off at dinner time by Ira and granddaughter Joan Roquet. Joan remembers well driving him home that night. The next day they got the news that Walter had passed away in his sleep at 58 years old

Walter Roquet Died Suddenly

Walter Roquet, retired farmer, who has lived in Fremont for several years, died suddenly at his home last Sunday morning. Cause of death was a blood clot, and he passed away in his sleep.

Walter Arthur Roquet was born March 7, 1887 near Fremont and passed away at his home in Fremont, Nov. 25, 1945, at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 18 days.

He was the son of Lewis Cole and *Margaret Jane Roquet. He was married to Carrie Allman on Feb. 14, 1912. To this union were born three children, Mrs. G.E. Cornell of Ottumwa, Mrs. H.R. Hedlund of Packwood and Tech. Sgt. Walter Doyle Roquet of the U.S. air forces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Effie.

Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Cora Hockett of Enterprise, Ore., and Mrs. C.O. Robbins of Martinsburg, Iowa; also five brothers, H.A. of Long Beach, Calif, C.A. of Hedrick, George of Fairbanks, Ira C. of Fremont, and Earl of Des Moines. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

At an early age he united with the Christian church and then became a member of the Fremont Methodist church later in life. He was a kind friend and neighbor. He cared for his father in the latter's declining years. The father was laid to rest just two years before Walter.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday, Nov. 27 with Rev. R.A. Reed in charge. Pallbearers were Vernol Brand, Wm Lee, J.C. Olive, John Carter, Millard Blanchard and Ward Rhoads. Burial was in Cedar township cemetery.
