She was born in Colquitt County and lived there until after she was married. She and her husband settled first in Clayton County for 24 years and Coweta County for 12 years. She started singing as a member of the Sunbeams at her church and she continued to be a member of her church choirs (as a soloist) all her life until she could no longer sing because of her illness. She sang in the A Capella Choir and Serenaders at Moultrie Senior High School. The summer after her senior year, the Serenaders performed at the Kiwanis International Convention in Toronto, Canada. She majored in music (voice education) at the University of Georgia and was a member of the Georgia Singers. After moving to Atlanta, she sang with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for several seasons. In later years, she sang with the Tara Choral Guild, where she served as a soloist. For several years, she performed concerts in local churches and in other states, such as South Carolina.

She has been a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church at Whiteoak in Newnan, Ga., for the past 12 years. She was a very active member and sang in the choir and a quartet before her health began to fail. She worked as the office manager of several doctors' groups but later became employed at Northwest Airlines for 12 years. While there, she and her family traveled, taking trips to Hawaii, Mexico, California, Nevada, Colorado and many more places.

She was preceded in death by brother, Jimmy Justice; and an uncle, Herman Busby.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gene Cummings; a son, Clint Cummings and wife Bianca of Canton, Ga.; a daughter, Melanie Cummings of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Stephanie Cummings; a sister-in-law, Carol Justice of Abbeville, S.C.; two nieces, Jan Davis and husband Andy and Jennifer Smith and husband Frank, all of Abbeville, S.C.; three grand-nephews, Drew and Ryan Davis and Will Smith; an uncle and two aunts, Jack and Anna Busby of Americus, Ga., and Alma Busby of Moultrie; and five first cousins.
