Mrs. Vanderkolk dies August 24, 1999

Mrs. Ruby Miller Vanderkolk, 97, of 4973 Martha Berry Highway, Armuchee, died Tuesday at her residence.

Mrs. Vanderkolk was born in Floyd County on Jan. 11, 1902, daughter of the late Adolphus Miller and Gereetie Abney Miller. She was a member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was a registered nurse. Her first husband, Paul W. Shiflett, to whom she was married in 1919, died earlier. Her second husband, Lloyd N. Vanderkolk, also died earlier.

Survivors include one son, Paul W. Shiflett Jr., Rome; five daughters, Sara Sigel, Daytona Beach, Fla., Mildred Langham, Rome, Kathleen Highfield, Riverside, Ala., Myra Patterson, Armuchee, and Jean Traylor, Clarksville; one sister, Pearl Miller Mount, Silver Creek; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert M. Skelton officiating.
