|Death: ||Jan. 16, 1909|
Mary S. DAVIS DeVoll was born in Licking county, Ohio, March 14, 1838 where she grew to womanhood and was married to [Leander] Edward DeVoll, March 7, 1855. To this union sixteen children were born, of which only the following survive: Emanuel [Edward] DeVoll of Ottumwa, Iowa, Samuel and Mathias DeVoll, Mesdames J. P. and Bendy Garton of Grafton, Mrs. [Sarah] Ellen DeVOLL Spellmeyer of Sumner and Mrs. Myrtle Kalbing of Fairmont.
In 1888, the DeVoll Family came to this state and made their home near Grafton. Three years ago, Mr. DeVoll died on the same day of the month that his companion died--last Saturday, Jan. 16, 1909, reaching an age of seventy years, ten months and two days.
Mrs. DeVoll united with the Methodist church years ago and in her last hours lifted her heart up to God in prayer. The funeral services were held last Sunday at two p.m. from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kalburg, with whom she had made her home for the past seven years, conducted by Rev. A. Lemkau of the Congregational church. Interment was made in the GRAFTON CEMETERY.
"A precious one from us has gone,
The voice we loved is still;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love has given,
And though the body slumber here,
The soul is safe in Heaven."
