Mr. James A. Pryor, 84, of 127 N. Franklin St., Waynesboro, PA, died at 10:45 P.M., Sunday, October 28, 2001 in Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past three months.
Born September 9, 1917 in Leitersburg, MD, he was the son of the late James Albert and Carrie (Winters) Pryor. He lived his early life in Leitersburg.
Mr. Pryor received his G.E.D. from Waynesboro Area School District.
He and his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Betty J. (Zentmyer) Pryor, were married on March 23, 1940 in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to their present residence in 1948.
Early in his life, Mr. Pryor was employed at Waynesboro Shoe Factory, Waynesboro. He then received his certification as a pattern maker and worked for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, MD and Boeing in Philadelphia, PA. He returned to Waynesboro and worked for Frick Company and Globe Pattern Works, both of Waynesboro. He then was self-employed as a pattern maker for a short time. Prior to retiring in 1981, he worked for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown.
Mr. Pryor was a member of Order of the Owls Nest #1073 and Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, both of Waynesboro, and National AARP.
He enjoyed reading and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Daphne J. Yingling and Patricia A. Martin, both of Waynesboro; one son, James A. Pryor, Westminster, SC; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 31, 2001 in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro with Pastor Donald E. Conley and Pastor Richard Daughtridge officiating.
There will be no public viewing.
