A daughter of the late Harden T. and Lillie Catherine Snow Foley, she was born on September 2, 1911, in Augusta County, Virginia, and was reared in the Fairview community. She lived the majority of her life in Rockingham County, Virginia and the Cross Keys community.
Mrs. Diehl owned and operated Miriam's Beauty Shop from 1947 until 1969 and was a survivor of the explosion at Pauline's Beauty School in Harrisonburg. She was a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.
She was twice married. Her first husband, Cecil Erskin Garber preceded her in death on November 28, 1951. On December 28, 1952, she married Herman H. Diehl Jr. who died on August 6, 1999. Her son, Cecil E. Garber Jr. preceded her in death in June of 1990.
She is survived by two daughters, Lillie Snow Garber Cox and her husband, Jim, of Crimora and Mary Sue Garber Dean and her husband, Earl, of Elkton; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Garber of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren; 14 great -grandchildren; two great -great-grandsons; and one sister, Beula A. Monger of Mobjack, Virginia. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Clinton, Walter, Harden, Rinker, Warren and John Foley; and three sisters, Feral Isom, Ethel Cooper and Roxie Foley.
Her body will be cremated per her request.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will be private.
