Agnes (White) Brian, 103, of 38 Rosedale Road, West Hartford, died April 27, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.


Agnes was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Patrick J. White and Nora (Carney).


As a young woman in Roxbury, MA, she enjoyed working on the swan boats in the Boston Public Gardens, a treasured memory that would carry her whole life. Later she would work as a secretary before meeting and marrying her beloved husband James in 1935. They lived in Milton, MA before moving to West Hartford in 1949. In West Hartford, Agnes and James raised their daughter and three sons.


She would volunteer at the Red Cross, as well as participate in the West Hartford Dames. A special memory for the family is summer vacations in Humarock Beach, MA. Agnes was an original member of the Church of St. Helena and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the Church.


Agnes was predeceased by her husband James; a daughter Patricia McCarthy; a son Gerard F. Brian; and by her sisters Mary Welch, Catherine Biggi, Josephine, Margaret and Anna White. She is survived by her sons, James M. Brian Jr. of Boston, Robert A. Brian of West Hartford and Humarock MA; and a son in law Arthur McCarthy of Peabody, MA. She is additionally survived by eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday (May 1, 2010), with the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford.
Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
Friends and family may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford.
