Railroad Pioneer Dies Here at 83
Services Will Be Held Today For George Barton
Funeral Services will be held this afternoon for George Barton, 83-year-old Flint railroad pioneer, who died Sunday at St. Joseph's hospital. The Rev. Herbert C. Gans will officiate at the ceremony to be held in the Rose Chapel of Algoe-Gundry mortuary at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Avondale cemetery.
Born in New York City, Mr. Barton came to Flint at the age of 18 and has lived here ever since. On his arrival in Flint Mr. Barton accepted a position as inspector with the Grand Trunk railroad. He remained with the Grand Trunk until eight years ago, retiring at the age of 75.
The grand old man in Flint 's railroad history lived at 802 Stevens street with his sister-in-law, Miss Elizabeth Watt. Surviving Mr. Barton are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Barnhart of Flint and Mrs. Esther Lunt of Lapeer; one son, George Willard Barton of Flint; four grandchildren; one sister, Miss Margaret Barton and one brother, David Barton, both of Ontario.
