Octavia was the ninth child in a family of 12 children. Her brothers and sisters were: William M., Lucy A., John J., Edward W., Martha, Catherine, Mary, George, Sarah, Rachael, and Eliza J., all born in Kentucky.
About 1873, Octavia married Rev Bela Metcalfe, born in Kentucky (1842-1925). Bela was the son of William Melville Metcalfe (1806-1877), and Amanda McIntire (1811-1893), both born in Kentucky.
Octavia and Bela settled in Nicholas County, where Bela was a farmer and minister. They had seven children: Nancy B. Metcalfe-Norton (1875-1961), Edmund Grubbs Metcalfe (1877-1958), Thomas Melville Metcalfe (1879-1980), George H. Metcalfe (1882-), Katie Metcalfe (1883-), Charles Miner Metcalfe (1886-1968), and Hattie Metcalfe (1889-).
Octavia died on Feb 19, 1931. Both she and her husband are buried in Carlisle Cemetery.
