Pearl was the daughter of Andrew A. Smith and Annie McManus, who came to Texas from Nebraska in the early 1880s in a covered wagon. She was married to William Winfield Roby, a real estate agent* who owned his own business. They had six children: Marguerite, Helen, Evelyn, William, Lillian, and Andrew. After William died, she worked as a dressmaker in her home to support her family.

She was a member of the Pearl Chapel Study Club, Kickapoo Garden Club, Mesquite Home Demonstration Club, and Balch Springs Home Demonstration Club. She was a life-long member of Highland Baptist Church. At the time of her death, Pearl was a resident of Seagoville, but she died in a Dallas hospital. Before moving to Seagoville, she lived in Dallas.

*His death certificate says he was an oil salesman, but the amended birth certificate of one of the children says he was a real estate agent. That certificate has Pearl's signature. The 1910 census also says his business was real estate.
