He was born on May 6, 1924 to Charles W. and Anna Louise (Zeitz) Smith in South Boon. He married Helene Rossell Sept. 4, 1943.
Mr. Smith worked at Teledyne Continental Motors from 1943 to 1985 before retiring. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Helene; children, Garold E. (Carol) Smith of Mecosta and Mary Ann (Mark) Morton of Cassopolis; grandchildren, Darrick and Benjamin Smith and Tara Morton; brother, Joseph; and sister, Rose Sparks.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Louis, Fred and Carl; and sisters, Bertha Smith and Lizzy Sayer.
