William Frederick Blake
Birth: May 3, 1851
Franklin County
Maine, USA
Death: Dec. 24, 1915
Grand Rapids
Kent County
Michigan, USA

William Frederick Blake and his twin brother, Freeman Dawes Blake, (both share the same grave stone) were born in Farmington Falls, Maine to Increase Blake III and his wife, Sarai Tarbell (Farnsworth) Blake, of Norridgewock, ME. WFB and his brother attended Kent's Hill Seminary. WFB was admitted to Harvard, but having the coveted opportunity to 'read law' in a Judges office, he did that, and was admitted to the Maine Bar. He served as United States Deputy Counsel in several Canadian cities. For nine years he was U.S. Deputy Consul at London and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. (His paternal uncle, Freeman Norton Blake, was U.S. Consular Agent). In 1881 he was admitted to the bar in Franklin County, ME. WFB then married Alde Louise Tuck (she is also on same grave stone). WFB and his wife moved from Maine to Chicago. He was a law partner to a mining firm that had claims in Utah, where the Alta Ski Area is now located. News reached WFB and his wife that the mine had flooded and his employment with them had ended. They then moved to Grand Rapids, MI where WFB entered the wholesale grocery business. His dauther, Ethel, said of him, "he was one of the dearest, sweetest, most unselfish men, that ever lived". "A Genius for Friendship", someone else said of him.
