Was Born In Germany
Mr. Bauer, the son of the late Heinrich and Mrs. Henrietta Bauer, was born in Germany fifty-eight years ago, the descendant of five generations of German florists. He was brought to this country by his parents when five weeks old, and after his early education served as an apprentice with several Baltimore florists. In 1898 he founded his own business.
Mr. Bauer, who gained a national reputation as an authority on evergreens, plants and shrubs, was a disciple of Burbank, and introduced in this country several new species of roses and dahlias, the result of personal study and propagation. His labors were rewarded with an honorary life membership in the Society of American Florists.
Member of Masonry
Besides being a charter member of the Florists' Club of Baltimore he also was a member of the Royal Arch Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star, of Monumental Commandery, Knights Templar and Knights of the Golden Eagle. He was also a director of the Florists' Exchange.
Mr. Bauer is survived by three sons, William F. Bauer, Irvin O. Bauer, and Harry Bauer; two daughters, Miss Margaret Bauer and Miss Thelma Bauer; a sister, Mrs. Henrietta Schmidt, and a brother, Otto Bauer of Washington.
