FRANKLINTON Maxine Jones Armstrong, 83, a resident of Franklinton, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday in Riverside Medical Center. Family members said she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and was active in all facets of church work, including teaching Sunday school, home Bible study groups, singing in church choirs and vacation Bible school and leading nursing home ministries. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklinton.

She shared her love of music and singing with all of her family and her hobbies, when she had time, were sewing, reading, travel, and Bible study.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dr. William H. Armstrong of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and James H. Penny of Franklinton and Phyllis and George Panos of Birmingham, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, William H. Jr. and Coby Armstrong of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy Todd and Michelle Richardson of Franklinton, and Jill Leanne and Mike Hickman of Jackson, Miss.; a great-grandchild, Gage Even Richardson; two sisters, Vivian Jones Richardson of Enon and Voleska Jones Case of Pearl River.

A native of the Enon community, she was the daughter of the late Lorah Jones and Amazon Mizell Jones; and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Varnel and W. Kyle Jones.

Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home yesterday from 3 p.m. until time of the funeral service, conducted from the funeral home chapel at 5 p.m. The Rev. Luther Stanford, Rev. John Gilbert, and Ben Morgan officiated at the service. Burial followed in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
