John Hamilton was born February 14, 1832 in Guernsey County, Ohio, and died March 4, 1919, aged eighty-seven years and eighteen days.
He was united in marriage to Mary M. Davis, December 11, 1851, and she preceded him to the better world on September 30, 1893. To this union was born eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, namely: Joseph M. Hamilton, of Pleasant Ridge; Hans Hamilton, of Solsberry; Mary Masterson, of South Dakota; Elvira Hunter, of Lyons, George Hamilton, of Lis, Ill.; John Hamilton and James Hamilton and Roberta Shields of Worthington; Olaf R. of Bloomfield. Six of the children still survive.
Deceased served through the Civil war in the 97TH Regiment Indiana Volunteers.
He was married a second time to Mrs. Elizabeth M. Heaton on October 16, 1894, who still survives him. He united with the P. M. Church at an early age. After moving to Bloomfield he united with the M. E. Church at this place. He lived a loyal and devoted Christian until God called him home. He was a kind husband and father, always lending a helping hand to those who were in need. He was very patient through his long suffering.
The funeral was held at the family residence at 1 oclock Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Smith. Interment in the cemetery at Tulip.
