Rodney E. Fortune Sr., 72, Brainerd, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.

He was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Brainerd to Steven and Lila Fortune. He was employed as a carman for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Verla; four sons, Howard Fortune, Giese, Paul Fortune, Savage, Douglas Fortune, St. Cloud, and Rodney Fortune Jr., Brainerd; four daughters, Veronica Johnson, Middle River, ReNae Bolduc, Brainerd, Deidra Petersen, Merrifield, and Lila Lockwood, Baxter; two sisters, June Segler, Brainerd, and Sheila Simcoe, Bend, Ore.; and a brother, R. Lyle Fortune, Folsom, Calif.

His parents died earlier.

Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at Bethany Good Samaritan Village Chapel with Pastor Dean Norman officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery of Crosby. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 1647. Memorials are preferred to Bethany Good Samaritan Village.
